This is an initial draft based on the historical installation instructions. These should be suitably adjusted for post Helios releases.


This document details how to install VE into Eclipse

Contents

  • Download and install one of the following standard Eclipse distributions for Java development:
- "Eclipse IDE for Java Developers"
- "Eclipse Classic"
- "Eclipse for RCP/Plug-in Developers"
- "Eclipse IDE for Java and Report Developers"
- "Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers"
  • VE 1.5 requires EMF 2.4+, which requires JDK 5.0 or later.

 Online Install

  • Start eclipse, then start the Install Manager.
Help > Install New Software... 
  In the "Work with:" field, paste http://visualeditor.sourceforge.net/updates/1.5.0/, and hit enter
  When the site loads, select the feature(s) you want to install, then hit Next

 Offline Install

  • Download the latest Update site zip from one of these locations:
  • Start eclipse, then start the Install Manager. Click on the 'Add Site' button and Select 'Archive' as the Location. Browse to the location of the Zip file you downloaded. When the site loads select the features you wish to install.
  • Help > Install New Software... >Add...
                      > Archive
Help > Install New Software... > Add... > Archive...
  Browse for the zip you downloaded.
  When the site loads, select the feature(s) you want to install, then hit Next

After restarting Eclipse, launch Help > About Eclipse > Installation Details. You should find the following VE plugins.
